Ding Yi Music Company will perform their interpretation of the legend of Sisters’ Island converging Chinese chamber music with other art forms. Inspired by famous but neglected Singapore landmarks, Of Music and Art: The Legend Retold transports audience to the shores of Sisters’ Islands to relive the tale of the two fateful sisters. Besides sand arts and dance, additional multimedia elements pieced with photos and videos of Sisters’ Islands will be incorporated for an immersive experience.

This is the first year Ding Yi incorporates sand art and Javanese dance by collaborating with sand artist Lawrence Koh and Javanese dancer Garrett Koh.

Sand Artist Mr. Lawrence Koh

SAND ART jumped out and arrested my attention when I received this media news. To play with sand, is awesome, but to watch a sand art PERFORMANCE? It blew my mind as this would be accompanied by a live 20 musician strong ensemble! I am sooooo looking forward to this artistic performance by Lawrence Koh!

Here’s a review of Lawrence:

“I was amazed at your talent and just how good you were with your performance. It must have taken many hours of practice.” – Emeritus Senior Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong to Sand Artist Lawrence Koh

Lawrence Koh is an international sand art virtuoso and multi-disciplinary artist specialized in both visual and performing arts. A celebrated artist in Singapore’s entertainment and arts scene, Lawrence’s career spans across theatre productions, cultural fusion performances, short films, corporate videos, television programmes, television commercials, documentaries and live concerts.

In a special collaboration with renowoned Bhaskar’s Arts Academy in their major theatre production “CHAKRA”, a fusion of Indian dance, ballet, live Indian orchestra and sand art was created. It was so well received that his performance “CHAKRA” was restaged once again at the Toa Payoh Amphitheatre with Lawrence being part of the National Arts Council’s “Arts for All” programme.

The above combination is already a feast to the senses and we even have a Javanese Dance to entice the audience with his classical moves in Yogyakarta court style! Have you been exposed to such classical dance from Indonesia? I haven’t. My family will hopefully even catch a move or two from his up close and personal workshop!

That brings me to this special announcement.
