Colours Of The Bible 2018 Exhibition

None of us had won any prize for this competition. But ALL of us were selected to be exhibited! That itself was something to be delighted over! All of us made it together and we attended the opening ceremony.

Before I bring you the exhibition review, here’s a process of our heartworks!

Kids brainstormed to chose the miracle and wonder they wanted to express in their artworks. Kids helped me do the background with their blind finger painting experience. The process of how the heads were refined along the way. An explanation of my artwork will be done at the end of the post.

Colours of the Bible Exhibition Opening Ceremony 2018

Chief Rabbi Abergel and Reverend Ezekiel Tan gave the opening address and the winners were presented with their prizes. Being our first time joining this competition, I was very heartened by the crowd of artists and their families from all ages standing in support of this Bible Art exhibition.

Here are some artworks that I have taken in the hope to encourage you to reconsider the miracles God has done in the ancient days, He is still mightily at work Now.

The one who opened the red sea, is also the one who opened the grave. With a Mighty Saviour who ressurrected on the 3rd day after His cruxifixion, christians are not afraid of the taboo Death. Death truly has lost its sting.

I adore the 2 vibrant childlike and fun paintings of how God provides abundantly! Be not afraid, He who feeds the sparrow and the 5000, He will use your whatever little you have and multiply to the mass!

A great reminder, to remember how Jesus prayed earnestly for His cup to be taken away but yet according to God’s will Be Done! The result? A suffering that alleviated all of humankind’s suffering by His resurrection! What can you do to be saved? Believe by faith in The Lord Jesus and you and your household, will be saved.

Are you sick?

Jesus can Heal you – all body, soul, spirit and mind. Eventually, our present bodies will be wasted away sooner or later. Therefore, the most important and ultimate goal of Christ’s healing is our soul to be with Him in eternal glory with a transformed body.

He continues to heal the broken-hearted.

This painting is a true testimony of God’s moving redeeming grace. Our heart and our flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73: 26

We may not be in the shoes of this person, but each of us have our cross to bear. What is yours?

Here, I end with the reason for my painting. The scripture verses have been impressed in my heart throughout these few months of a dry season this year.

EMMANUEL; My Holy Spirit will be with you

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

John 14:15-18

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Acts 1:8

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Isaiah 51:7-8

“Hear me, you who know what is right,
you people who have taken my instruction to heart:
Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals
or be terrified by their insults.

Isaiah 51:11-12

11 Those the Lord has rescued will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

12 “I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
human beings who are but grass…

Psalm 3:3

But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

James 1:12

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

The Holy Spirit In Us

Do you face embarrassing moments? Do you struggle with mothering guilt?

There was a period where I felt intensely embarrassed over my children’s certain behaviour. It developed into shame. Each time an incident happens, my head hung low and my heart sighed guiltily. I felt the awful eyes of judgement from strangers and sometimes, even friends. This continued for a few years until one day (a Friday) my colleague exhorted me with her testimony.

She too had the same struggle until the Lord gave her the word, ‘I will be the one to crown you with glory and lift your head up high.’ She held her head high from then onwards. It blew my mind. Normally, I will take all my heart’s intent unto the Lord in prayer. That day, I did not. I secretly wondered how marvellous it would be if God would also speak to me and give me that verse for my encouragement. I felt it was too much to ask of God.

Prior to this, the Lord gave me Isaiah 55:10-11 to impress on me how His Words will sanctify and eventually reap a harvest in my children’s lives in His time. I need to trust, continue to nurture them in His truth and allow the Holy Spirit to work in their lives.

Two days later (Sunday), during devotion time, He showed me Isaiah 51:11-12 where “everlasting joy will crown their heads” impressed my heart. I was about to end my quiet time when I felt prompted to open another devotion book to read. There I found His Rhema Words that I secretly hoped for in print.

“My joy is your strength, I bestow Glory on you, lifting your head. Through faith in my Son, you can come to me with freedom and confidence. My precepts are right, bringing joy to your heart. My commands are radiant, giving light to your eyes.

Watch me supply and increase your store of seed and enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.”

(Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 3:3, Ephesians 3:12, Psalm 19:8, 2Corinthians 9:10 from God Things Come In Small Packages for Moms)
God knows each of us deeply. As we draw near to Him, He will meet our every need.

This led me to complete the painting I had been working on.

As I pondered how God’s words will blossom according to His will (Isaiah 55:10-11), the image of the Holy Spirit (dove) within us (Emmanuel) helps empower our spirit to overcome the trials (amidst the dark background) in our lives. The most miraculous power rests within us when Jesus ascended to heaven. Not only will He stay with us forever and not leave us as orphans, the Holy Spirit had power to spread the gospel to the mass (Acts 1:8).

The promise that our heads will be lifted up and be honoured with the crown of life, gave me the inspiration to depict the humbled lowly hung head of the dove which will be lifted up high when we meet Jesus face to face in his second coming. The dove could be seen as a dual symbolism; 1) the Holy Spirit within us and 2) Our Spirit

Dear Mummies and Daddies, cease focusing on yourself or your child’s flaws.

Lift up your eyes and let the Holy Spirit lift up your head and heart! God will crown you with glory when He comes! Stand tall and be proud of your children as He is of you.

Emmanuel painting

Romans 15:13

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:20

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

I pray that this exhibition will inspire you as it has for me and my kids! Do see the real heartworks for yourself before it ends! The below are winning pieces that won the judges’ hearts.
